Winnifred’s

No matter how beautiful or imaginative a design, without the expertise and execution of an outstanding builder, it will remain unrealised. So, when the TSA team began designing Winnifred’s, they reached out to Bespoke to bring the vision into reality.

Tell us the story of Winnifred’s

Fred: It came about from Tim introducing Megan to us and wanting to work with a builder he’d worked with before and who he trusted to do the project justice. We immediately liked Megan and were very attracted to the project.

Bill: I loved seeing the plans for the first time, we knew it was going to be an interesting project. I love seeing difficult things on plans- that really gets us interested.

Fred: We were excited from the moment we saw the first 3D renders.

Bill: The brick screen – that took some thought. At first we were like, it looks beautiful on the renders, but how’s that going to stay up there? That was interesting straight away.

Fred: And excavating an entire level under an existing building without it collapsing… having to take machines apart and reassemble them underground to excavate.

Bill: We did a lot of brainstorming right from the outset, which was fun, kept it interesting… not normal.

Fred: There’s nothing normal about this project. It was challenging, but very rewarding.

Toughest thing about the build?

Bill: The excavation. We had to solve a lot of engineering complexities. Because the build was moving fast, we had to think on the go.

Fred: Keeping up – it was a reasonably short time frame for a build of this size and scope and complexity. Just making sure everything was perfect.

Do you have a favourite room?

Fred: For me it’s the white private function room – it’s very homely.

Bill: The Bistro for me, seeing that come together and how warm that feels, and with the addition of a wall of wine fridges, it’s a beautiful room.

Fred: That said… I love the Champagne Bar too! It’s hard… each room feels and looks unique and has its own character.

Bill: It’s the perfect example of a great collaboration between architect and builder and consultants – and there are so many of those throughout the build.
